Red Deer is located in Central Alberta, midway between the major cities of Edmonton and Calgary. Sylvan Lake


Situated on the southern shore of Sylvan Lake, The Town of Sylvan Lake is located just 18 kilometres west of Red Deer.  The Town is ideally located on the Calgary-Edmonton Corridor, with both Calgary and Edmonton less than 150km away to the north and south of the Town. A beautiful two hour drive West of Sylvan Lake will put you in the Rocky Mountains.

Sylvan Lake is a thriving hub of activity for families, seniors, and individuals of all ages. There are schools, churches, plenty of shopping options, and year round activities.

Sylvan Lake has a long history as a popular resort town. Because of the beautiful lake and the well-developed waterfront, tourism has been Sylvan Lake’s biggest draw since it incorporated in 1913. While the year round population is around 14,600, the town attracts over 761,000 visitors in summer. Penhold is surrounded by the county of Red Deer No. 23, 16 km (9.9 mi) south of Red Deer at the junction of Highway 2A and Highway 42. It is located 128 kilometres (80 mi) north of Calgary, along the Red Deer River. The population of Penhold is around 2500 as of the 2012 census.

Penhold has numerous businesses including a spa, a pizza place, a motel, a liquor store, two gas stations and a grocery store. There are two school choices in Penhold. Attractions in Penhold include a museum, a recreation centre, a splash park and an outdoor ice rink.

Blackfalds is located roughly 14km North of Red Deer. It is situated halfway between Edmonton and Calgary just off the QE2 highway.

Lacombe is located roughly 25km North of Red Deer. It is situated halfway between Edmonton and Calgary just off the QE2 highway.

Lacombe, Alta, incorporated as a town in 1902 and as a city in 2010, population in 2011 was 11,000. Lacombe’s historic downtown features many restored early 20th-century Edwardian-style buildings and numerous murals based on a local heritage theme.

Innisfail is Conveniently situated on the Calgary-Edmonton Corridor, Innisfail is a thriving mid-sized community in what some may say is the perfect location. It’s just 15 minutes south of Red Deer and an hour north of Calgary, meaning whatever few amenities aren’t available are just a short drive in either direction. The population of Innisfail is around 8000.

A state-of-the-art library, a multi-surface ice rink, and a year-round indoor aquatic centre are among the amenities enjoyed regularly by town residents and visitors alike. There are also walking trails, ball diamonds, sports fields, outdoor skating rinks, tennis courts, a ski hill, a spray park and a curling rink, and Town Council recently took the first steps toward constructing a new skatepark.
